Graça Machel Inspiring a New Era of Female Leadership

Graça Machel, former First Lady of South Africa, received the 2024 Forbes WOMAN Africa Lifetime Achievement Award on March 8 in Johannesburg. In her heartfelt speech, she dedicated the award to all the girls who have fought for freedom and equality throughout Africa. Reflecting on her almost eighty-year adventure, she acknowledged the contributions of girls like Ma’Sisulu, who shared her imaginative and prescient of a liberated and empowered continent.

Throughout her profession, Machel has been a sturdy advise for girls’ and children’s rights. She led the UNICEF document, The Impact of Armed Conflict on Children, which modified how the UN deals with struggle zones. In 2010, she founded the Graça Machel Trust to assist ladies’ economic and social empowerment, food security, schooling, and true governance. Her work continues to uplift ladies throughout diverse sectors.

During the awards, Machel emphasized the role of younger ladies in shaping Africa’s future, encouraging them to take on management roles. Her recognition, at the side of different awardees like Olympic gold medalist Caster Semenya and media entrepreneur Mo Abudu, showcases how ladies are breaking obstacles and making massive affects throughout specific industries. Through her efforts, Machel is inspiring the following generation of leaders to step up and lead the way.
