Sarah Adam Makes Uplifting Paralympic History
Sarah Adam creates history of being the first woman to represent the U. S wheelchair rugby team. She was in the starting line up when team USA started its campaign on Thursday, August 29st during the team’s 51-48 against Canada, she scored six goals during the match.
“While it is a proud feeling to be the first female to do so, I have trained very hard to get a placement on this team and the effort I have made to make sure that the first thing people see when they look at me is an athlete. “
Adam’s interest in wheelchair rugby started in 2013 being an ordinary volunteer observing a regional paralyzed sports competition but received active introduction to the game. Adam’s life changed dramatically in 2016 when she was diagnosed of Multiple Sclerosis.
The year marked the first time a woman clinched the gold in wheelchair rugby at the Parapan American Games and that Woman was Adam who was one of the strongest players on the court during the 2023 Parapan American Games. Her combined score was the second highest of the whole competition and made sure that Team USA secures a spot in the 2024 Paralympic Games.
Besides excelling single-handedly, she also contributed to making her team be among the second runners up in the 2022 Wheelchair Rugby world championship adding onto her impressive records. Her recent accomplishments have now placed her as one among the greatest icons of Paralympic history.
